Santiago

There were no semicama seats left when we booked so we splashed out and booked fully reclining cama seats for the bus to Santiago. This was much more comfortable but for some reason I didn’t sleep (classic Emma). We arrived early in the morning, figured out the metro and travelled to the area we were staying in. We had booked an apartment but we couldn’t check in until 3pm so after brekkie in Bellavista we spent the rest of our time walking through the parks and people watching. That afternoon we chilled out, cooked some dinner, had a bottle of wine, and enjoyed our lovely apartment.

We were again at the stage of our trip where we had nothing planned past the next two nights accommodation so we spent the morning booking our travel to the north of Chile. That afternoon we took a walking tour around Santiago which was pretty good, and we caught up with Tamsin who we met in Pucon and went out for yummy icecream and then dinner and beers in Bellavista. Although we are not city people we were really enjoying Santiago – even if all we were doing was eating and drinking…

The next day morning Tom was searching rentals for our time up north and came across a oneway deal from Santiago to San Pedro de Atacama at about a third of the normal price. After a bit of back and forth we decided to go with it and quickly cancelled our buses and hostels we had booked the day before and tried to make a rough plan for what we would do in the camper. We had lost a day exploring in Santiago but hopefully the road trip would be worthwhile! For dinner we went to Jardin Mallinckrodt which a guy Tom met canyoning had recommended, it was an awesome place with a craft beer bar surrounded by lots of different food trucks that you could order from.
